The VERSUS series is an installation project containing 10 illustrations about social issues. As main concept, irony and contradictions. It's the result of a 2-months investigation work.

In this one the main subject is the dead forms of art, specially the still life. In my opinion, the artist as genius creates on the mind, and the artisan upon reality, and I think that to represent a simple realistic still life or portrait just adds nothing to the term of art now, since the art out of the mind from my point of view isn't art, and I wanted to laugh a bit about that. You can know more about that reading some Greenberg's texts, specially "Kitsch and Avantgarde", about alejandrine art.

You can see the full serie in my website: [link]

All images are 4500 x 3000 px @ 600dpi. In these most of the photos are mine.

Models are Inma Valera & Alba Navas.
Thanks for looking (:

Still, though, if still life is a dead form, and its corpus is just being repainted with ever thicker layers, where does the line get drawn? First still-life, but what next? At what point does art cease being art, and merely a dead horse to be whipped by freshmen college art students?

Art needs to be reinvented from the ground up periodically, so that the old mannequins are thrown out and fresh ones are set up in their place...

Yeah, more or less, like what occured with avantgardes, neoavantgardes and postavantgardes. What's next then?

But that's the all-important question, innit? "What's next" has to be answered by the artists themselves. We have to define a new way of portraying the world, built on the ideas of what has gone before. We need to learn from what works and what doesn't work in order to pursue fresh ideas.

irony and contradictions. a very thoughtful, very deep, yet real and practical concept/ theme you touched. I have been discovering the elements and meaning in this series and find is really true to the core! Your un derstanding and visualisation of art has come such a long way mario! truly amazing! :D
