Exhibition at Parallax Art Fair

Journal Entry: Sat May 26, 2012, 6:26 AM

The last May, from the 15th to 18th, it took place in the Chelsea Old Town Hall of London, the opening of the 5th edition of the Parallax Art Fair, a meeting point for contemporary art that gathered more than 200 artists from more than 30 different countries from all over the world... and as it could be expected, Hysterical Minds took a trip to London to attend our international exhibition debut in one of the most important art fairs of Europe.

Our coordinator, Martín de Diego Sádaba, and our art director Mario Sánchez Nevado, flought to London to represent Hysterical Minds during the length of the fair, with a showcase of 20 artworks featuring paintings, photography and mixed media pieces, from figurativism to abstraction through everyday poetic captures and ending in oniric and obscure worlds in the possibly biggest stand of the fair. It included also some unpublished artworks that you will have the chance to discover in the release of our 10th art pack, very, very soon!

The fair, which lasted four days, assembled the most miscellaneous parts from the art of today (but withouth getting in the game of the contemporary taunt),from big canvases of abstract and post-expressionism mixed media paintings to the always present on these events, the pop art, but also with the chance of discovering a bit of realism but above all, artworks that were due to the new languages of modern art imposed by the art world of the beginning of the century. So, adding all of this up, the fact of finding a stand of an artistic collective (because on that matter, we were the only ones) consisting mainly of digital art pieces, got the audience by surprise, more used to analogue media and, to a certain extent, to the modern-pretentious arcaism.

On the inauguration day, accesible only to a V.I.P. audience, there were found some curators from one of the most important London districts (with the largest museums area in the city) but also some worldwide acclaimed artists that were showcasing their latests projects, and as the rest of us, they shared visiting cards and portfolios as a way of greeting the visitors.

With no doubt, we were there to shine: our stand was the very first one, and even if you could not notice it while entering, the visitors were unable to ignore our exhibition when they were trying to leave the fair: they were caught by surprise by a collection of artworks created using real contemporary media, but that both aesthetically and formally were trying to flee from the traditional conventionalisms of the artistic circles. But not only that – a generous amount of other artists exhibiting there came to the stand to show their respect and admiration for the collection we were showcasing. Both the first and the last day were completely full, while the rest of the time things were calmed but constant, giving the chance to all of us to know each other and establish some links while we were paying attention to the curious and interested visitors that were coming to our different stands.

Nonetheless, one of the big moments for Hysterical Minds came on Thursday 17th: Our art director gave a lecture about the young historical context of the on-line art collectives, how they were born and how they evolved, focusing on the working methods as well as some information regarding to past, present and future projects of Hysterical Minds, reaching its climax with a talking related to the margination issue of digital art on the conventional artistic circuits and markets. An open turn of questions and answers followed before ending the lecture with the introduction of our art book "Retrospective" that was well received (and purchased) by the londoners.

From here, we want to thank all of the artists form the collective that have collaborated with this project. Without them this wouldn't have had any sense!: Martín de Diego Sádaba, Mario Sánchez Nevado, Liran Szeiman, Martín Thompson, Sabrina Fernández Vazzino, Juan Carlos Barquet, Dumaker Martín Navas, Antonio Rodríguez Cano, Guillermo Chang, Beñat Olea Irureta, Israel Llona, Daniel Torres Storni, Joshua Cairos, Micael Katzman, Antonio Collado, Rubén Pomares, Diego Díez, Fernando Martín, Laurence Rhynn Viollet and Darío Pineda Montejo. Thanks to you, Hysterical Minds has left a good mark in London!

Coming very soon, we will show you a compilation of audiovisual content with footage from the fair. Stay tunned! Meanwhile you can take a look at what they're saying about the fair. As you can see, almost if not all of them feature one of the works exhibited by us!Obviously, this is just the first step of a very long walk that Hysterical Minds has just begun – no hurry, no stop – that will continue with an avalanch of news that you will discover during the lenght of this year.

We promised to get out of the screen. We're already on the streets. The hysteria has just begun.

Images from the fair available here!

Hysterical Minds: Twisted Essence!

Journal Entry: Thu Mar 1, 2012, 4:33 PM
For this release, we wanted to devise the pack using new working methods, so we proposed a dual theme to handicap it and to stimulate the creativity of our artists. In one hand, essence makes reference to the human nature: chaotic, confusing, volatile and full of blendings, from gloom to brightness, from pale to full color... creating a conglomeration of meanings that travel from the grotesque and the cruel to the ironic, going through fantasy or psychedelia.

On the other hand, twisted gives that altered, spontaneous, and at times, even macabre connotation that we have focused not only as a conceptual matter, but above all, as a compositive one: You won't see any centred pieces on the canvas. We have been working using alternative composition rules, such as the rule of thirds or the golden ratio, to get out the confort zone, and to offer a dynamic, narrative, polished and above all, full of shades visual experience, which accompanied with its eclectic and evocative soundtrack, will guide you through the created worlds of these hysterical imaginations.

I hope you enjoy it as much as we did creating it! It's a masterpack, so come and see!
You will find 5 never unreleased pieces of me... so this is your chance to discover them, and also the art of some great artists that you might not know!

Hysterical Minds: Shadowness... is out!

Journal Entry: Thu Sep 15, 2011, 7:01 PM
The Hysterical Minds artistic collective, in collaboration with the artistic community Shadowness.com, presents its eighth expression, HM8:SHADOWNESS, exhibition for which each artist has his personal vision of his darker side, through different styles and a variety of concepts, creating a disturbing set, of high quality and facing the tough challenge of raising a qualitative step in our growth dynamics, reasons why, together, we are sure you will not go unnoticed.

Focusing on a more illustrative esthetic dynamic and a dark concept, facing an art book project that will be released soon commissioned by a publishing company, we have developed this exhibit midway between the usual way of working the grupal exhibitiones of a collective on the one hand, and a similar workflow to a professional illustration studio on the other, and enhancing more than ever before in our group the constructive criticism and creative direction, putting it more difficult to ourselves.

We hope that the public understands the dual focus that will characterize the outcome of this exhibition, and that you like the fruit of our efforts.

And this is what I did for the pack:

And what others did :D

New website up!

Fri Aug 26, 2011, 9:28 AM

Hi folks! After three weeks of having the site closed, it is alive again!
As you can see, the full website has been redesigned 'til its core… Still clean and navigation friendly, but with a more personal approach in designing terms… definitely, a way better look & feel! Now it features new information in the About and Hiring pages, as well as a brand new revamped gallery… but what is more important: the site is now faster and more secure. Google Speed has rated this site with a score of 94/100, so no matter what browser or connection you're using: this page will load as fast as you can imagine, so no more problems about that like in the past :D

I hope you like the new design and navigation. It's been a lot of hard work, specially coding, to make the site as clean and useful as possible. Now that it's finished, expect a lot of news following these coming months.

And please, don't hesitate in telling me what you think in the comments below, or if you find any bugs… that will be greatly appreciated! :)

Facebook event available here, to help spreading the word! [link] :)

Castellano: ¡Muy buenas!

Hi all!

I'm being absent from here and my normal life since Spain is in REVOLUTION!

I'm currently living in one of the almost 700 campaments we've built all over the world (the one in Murcia) and I'm pretty busy doing stuff with the action commission... in fact, I just came home to take a shower and design some stuff we need. We're all really motivated and incredibly well organizated: we have built a kitchen, a kindergarten, a study area... well, a great ecosystem. The ambience here is awesome and I've had the great luck that my clients have allowed me to disappear for a while to attend this.

I guess that most of you already know what all of this is about. We want to change the system, a system that is not representative of us. A system in which the makers of the crisis want us to pay their errors... but we won't!

So that's it... I don't know how much time the campaments will be up, but my priorities are there now... it's our moment, we've been waiting for this not just a whole life, but a whole history... it the most important moment of our lives, and I want to be part of it, I want to give all my strenght to build a better place, so my personal stuff now... doesn't matter to me. So that means you won't see me for a while around here, but I'll try to get online from time to time!

Unexpected DD! Thanks!

Journal Entry: Sat Dec 25, 2010, 9:58 AM

Well, I was certainly not expecting a 7th Daily Deviation, but it seems this one has come as a xmas present by the hand of `kuschelirmel, surrounded by a lot of xmas messages and santa claus pictures (kinda strange judging by the nature of the image itself!).

Usually  I'm not very shocked when I've got a DD, but this one seems to have arrived just in time... a self-steem injection that I was surely needing because of my sickness and the terrible results of my last exhibition... so I want to say a big THANK YOU to Jasmin for this present!, since I'm passing these holidays with lawyers talking about what we should do next regarding to the doctor that has fucked up my health.

Happy vacations!

Destroy everything...

Journal Entry: Mon Dec 20, 2010, 12:22 PM

Hi all, bad news as usual blahblah...

I am in a very delicate state of health. I guess some of you may know that I had a surgery two months ago because of a throath problem. It was just a tonsillitis, but it was a big one since in the beginning the doctors thought it was cancer etc etc.

So well, yesterday I started to feel very bad in my throath and today I had to go to the hospital in a rush because of the pain. They have told me that the motherfucker that surgered me, just cut the visible parts of the tonsils and left the sick and not visible parts inside of me, so the sicknesshas been going on during this time... moreover, the left parts of the tonsils now are hyperthophied because they shouldn't be there.

But according to the doctors, THIS IS ABSOLUTELY FINE! They have been telling me during as year that I had cancer until they discovered it was something way tinier, but they were unable even to fix that! I have throwed my last year of life to the garbage because of these stupid people and still, I'm completely sick, feverish, and with a pain in my throath that doesn't allow me even to breath properly. Fuck yeah, Spain works fucking fine!

And you might think now, after reading all of this bullshit... "what the hell are you doing here writting this instead of resting or something like that?". Well, I cannot sleep with this pain, I'm home alone and I have to finish a process of moving (again)... I have to have everything set up this Thursday and I have a living hell in my head. Marvellous life I've got.

Apart of that, my solo exhibition was a complete disaster, I sold almost nothing, I spend all my money arranging everything and the 2nd day most artworks fell down and got broken, so I cannot sell them anymore. Great infrastructures there...

So yeah, I'm bored like hell and I had nothing better to do that to come here and start an endless rant. Because I'm worth it, like L'Oreal.

Solo exhibition, Interview...

Journal Entry: Tue Nov 16, 2010, 7:14 AM

HI all! And sorry for not updating in ages... I have been very very busy preparing everything for my next solo exhibition. Since I am procurating it myself, I have been printing, mounting, doing marketing shit and the merch and stuff... you know, all the dirty work... but it will look better once everything is finished. Today is the day of hanging ads all over the city! lol...

I hope it to be a success, since I have produced it at 100% and it would be great at least to get the money back selling some pieces :)

Apart of that, nothing else since I've been day & night working on this... It hasn't opened yet but the word of mouth has already started to run and I have two solo exhibition offers already! Now in Murcia the art biennial Manifesta 8 is happening and that will have a positive impact on this exhibit, since there are a lot of important people of the art world in this city that have come from all over the world.

In case you want to come...

Purple? Yes, thanks.

Journal Entry: Wed Oct 20, 2010, 9:23 PM

I guess that if you are reading this, you've already noticed that deviantArt is turning purple! (Well, if you're colourblinded it's getting orange, okey?).

Well, I am really surprised of this initiative. I'm happy that everyday LGTB awareness is getting bigger and it's having more acceptance in between people.

If you haven't read the "Purple Article" yet (which is here: [link]), you should, although I guess it should say nothing new for you. I was a victim of LGTB bullying until I was 17. I suffered diverse hidings, I was thrown from a cliff, I was locked in a container for hours, I was slashed all over my body for more than 10 people at the same time (brave people, huh) and above all, during more than 10 years of my life, I had my pride and my humanity spitted (so know you now why I had to run away from home when I was 17). I escaped to the nearest capital city, which is where I still live nowadays. In cities people don't care much at all about your sex and shit. I was living in a town and it was quite hard. Sometimes, I still go there to see my family, and there are still people who bullshit on me on the streets, it's quite hillarious.

I still don't know why those neardentals started to bull on me. All the people I know was always surprised when I had to say "oh yes, I like men"... it was always completely unexpected. It's hard to notice, and everybody thinks that I'm straight. I guess I was just the weird new guy on town (because I was emigrating from another place) and they were bored and they had to take on someone I guess. Great.

So yeah... beating people or torturing them won't change'em... it won't change their sexual orientation, their skin color, their religious or political views and so on. So I am happy that deviantArt has decided to do these awareness days about our rights... after all, everyone's rights.

So never forget that we are people, after all. No less, no more.

New look & feel!

Journal Entry: Sat Oct 16, 2010, 8:43 PM

Hi friends!

I have been really busy these latest days coding all the CSS for this dA account... like if I hadn't enough spending all last month coding my new site lol!
Well, I created a new journal skin, a gallery design and a sort of introduction design in my main profile page (it's the first thing you see). It's been a tedious battle but at last I can say I've won it! lol... Creating code for customizing dA is a real pain but it pays off well! :D

So take a look around my page, specially my gallery folders, and tell me what do you think! =P

Apart of that... well, I had a surgery two weeks ago, in my throath, and I've been very very weak, without talking, eating or smoking... well the smoking part is fine since I'm managing to quit at last (something that I have been wanting for ages... but it's very hard shit to do :|) The hardest thing has been being unable to eat a simple thing... I love food and this is being a hell for me because, still, I cannot eat. I started to speak again two days ago but my throath keeps on hurting a lot, but it's starting to get better really fast now. I had to stop my medication also, because I got an allergic reaction and my body got huge hives... but yeah, I'm recovering :aww:

On the other side (well, this is good'ol news but I've not been here to tell you!) I won Creajoven this year (at fucking last!) in the photography section with my Memories Collector series. You can find some more info about it on my blog. I am also preparing everything for my next solo exhibition at Ocio in Murcia (Spain), which is great because here the Manifesta 8 Bienal is happening from October to Januray and the city is filled with artists, curators and big fishes from the artistic world from all over the world, so a lot of people is going to attend the event (I hope!), so I'm preparing a lot of stuff. I'm doing a lot of A4 prints to sell'em really cheap so hopefully I can pay the rent with that lol. And as soon as I finish of getting everything arranged and done, I'll have to do the same with other exhibit I have in the Laboratorio de Arte Joven in February, with my Memories Collector series again :aww:

So yeah, good news all around, but still, no job, lol. You have to fight hard to get a job on this country, but I will! :XD:

Take care you all, and be nice!
And don't forget my photography account! XD :iconarmarioneta:
